THE WAY OF YIN YOGA

This workshop will introduce the student to the why, how, and what of Yin Yoga. The benefits of this way of practicing yoga are many, but if we don’t know the purpose and method, it is difficult to enjoy its fruits. Questions and discussion will be encouraged in order to deepen awareness and understanding of this beautiful and effective method.

HIPS DON'T LIE

The hips are a mysterious and often misunderstood section of the body. What structures make up the hips?  What exactly is a hip opener? What deep secrets do the hips hold? All of this (and more) will be covered through lecture, demonstration, and practice.

SPINAL FREEDOM

Joseph Pilates once stated, “You are only as old as your spine. If your spine is inflexibly stiff at 30, you are old; if it is completely flexible at 60, you are young". But, what does flexibility of the spine even mean? Is our spine a super fragile structure that we should take extra precautionary measures to protect? In this workshop, we will get to know the spine and its movements much more intimately, through lecture, demonstration, group work, and practice.

YOGA: A FUNCTIONAL APPROACH

Understanding the form and function of an individual’s unique structure is crucial in order to practice and teach yoga. We begin with becoming familiar with the skeleton and its movements and then examine how these movements apply to yoga postures. Hands-on analysis will be utilized in this interactive workshop which will broaden the practitioner and teacher’s understanding of the human body and the uniqueness of each individual.
