Generosity (Dana)
In the Buddhist tradition, dāna—the practice of generosity—is considered the first perfection (pāramī) and the foundation of the entire path. From the time of the Buddha, teachings were offered freely, supported by the lay community through acts of giving. This reciprocal relationship—teachers offering the Dharma without price, and practitioners supporting the livelihood of teachers - has allowed the teachings to remain available for over 2,600 years.
My own teaching continues in this spirit. I offer the Dharma as a gift. Acts of dana—whether financial support, service, or simple gratitude—help sustain my ability to teach, guide, and serve the community. Your generosity not only supports my livelihood, but also keeps alive a lineage of wisdom and compassion handed down from generation to generation.
With gratitude,
Adam
“Dāna is the beginning of the path because it begins the end of ‘I’ and ‘mine.’
When the heart gives freely, wisdom has already begun to arise.”

Dana FAQs
Why are the teachings offered freely?
In the Buddhist tradition, the Dharma is considered priceless — something that cannot be sold or reduced to a transaction. Offering teachings freely honors the lineage and keeps practice accessible to everyone, regardless of financial circumstances.
How does dana support you as a teacher?
Dana sustains the conditions for me to teach, practice, study, and serve the community. Your generosity supports my livelihood and allows me to continue offering retreats, classes, mentoring, writing, and the ongoing work of sharing the Dharma.
Is there a suggested amount?
There is no required or expected amount. Dana works best when it comes from a place of appreciation, freedom, and sincerity. You’re invited to offer whatever feels meaningful and sustainable for you.
How will my offering be used?
Your contribution supports:
-
My ongoing teaching, mentoring, and retreat offerings
-
Time dedicated to practice and study
-
The creation of talks, writing, and freely shared resources
-
My basic living and healthcare needs
Can I offer dana in other ways?
Yes. Dana includes your presence, practice, service, kindness, and care for the community. Financial offerings are just one expression of a generous heart.
